Nong Khiaw, about 180km from Luang Prabang, is a new rising star of Laos tourism when Vang Vieng adventures are restricted by government. Scenic river, sleeping villages of hill tribes, kayaking, boating and home stay, Nong Khiaw has it all. Be aware that Nong Khiaw is alternatively known as Muang Ngoi (the name of the surrounding district), creating obvious confusion with Muang Ngoi Neua, a 75-minute boat ride further North.
Laos
Laos, long a forgotten backwater, combines some of the best elements of Southeast Asia in one bite-sized destination.
